Prace nad "Super Mario Bros" by Kaz 2009-08-25 15:50:21

No ładne cacko ;)

Kaz 2009-08-25 18:09:05

Kaz 2009-08-25 19:03:15

Kazdy artysta ma prawo do fochow, taka juz to natura artystow :).

rako 2009-08-25 20:29:19

Naprawdę fajna Gierka oby autor dotrwał bezproblemowo do końca, takich fajniutkich gierek jest jak na lekarstwo, Out run też pokonuje kolejne przeszkody no i nadal projekt jest aktywny.. ;)

Ramos 2009-08-25 21:13:49

Zapowiada się fajna gierka. Najlepiej jakby jakiś grafik zrobił porządna grafikę do tego.

Ramos, ha ha (to był chyba żart)

Corrections:
(1) The scrolling demo has nothing to do with the SMB3 game I wanted to write.
(2) The scrolling demo is just a demo and it will always be.
(3) The loss of sources was years ago, recovering was also years ago.

Sources were lost some time, but I recovered, but that was already long time ago. Please can you explain what is FOCH? Seems you know better (than me) why I stopped writing SMB3.
Why can't "Lack of skills" be replaced by "Lack of time"?

Kaz 2009-08-25 23:00:12

Analmux - don't worry about CePe - he is a devil person :).

miker 2009-08-25 23:03:30

"Foch" in general means something like "I give up just because, life sux, everybody sux, goodbye"-type mood.

Forget CePe. his group probably broke up and it seemes he catched his own foch. ;)))

Good to hear, the sources have been recovered! Make sure you have some copies of them in really safe place. :)

Well, wasn't this the case then? ;) ...Thanks for explaining.
Maybe it was kind of Foch, but definitely not lack of skills, but more like lack of motivation and especially lack of time. But, motivation is coming back.

I have a good backup disk. I don't worry about loss of data.

This looks pretty neat. I'm always returning to my A8 projects seeing such a gem.

Good luck. I'm worrying about sprites though - do you plan to do them as character graphics ?

analmux 2009-08-25 23:39:57

The scrolling demo was just for 'proof of concept' of scrolling PM underlays. I wrote it during a discussion about PM underlays. Some people claimed it would only be suitable for static pictures.

The SMB3 clone I started was not aimed at using PM underlays, and will just use PM for mario and enemies, so no software sprites here.

What a nice surpise about this project. As far as I remember and understand, the author gave up developing this project after some "quarrels" with Emkay on AtariAge forum. So, that's really fine, everything is back to normal!! :)

mikey 2009-08-26 16:57:39

seeing miker explaining what cepe said is what I call a nice case of schizophrenia :)

zilq 2009-08-26 17:09:18

NO! może by tak w końcu powstał ładny port SMB ]:->

analmux 2009-08-26 18:26:00

@ Dracon,

I never had 'quarrels' with emkay when this SMB3 clone is concerned. In the contrary. I and emkay together did pokey instruments for almost 4 years.

Kaz 2009-08-26 21:40:53

We should leave all these senseless stories behind us and keep focus on future of this project. Bernhard, I hope you will be succesfull with SMB and I keep my fingers crossed.

analmux 2009-08-26 23:15:52

exactly, thanks. Whenever I have some more time I want to finish the stuff.

Kaz 2009-08-26 23:35:30

I noticed you are very talented, because you can provide music, graphics and code for this project. However, could it be a good idea to share hard work with other people?

analmux 2009-08-27 00:29:53

Thought about that many times ;)

There are two main reasons not to do that.
1) I think it's fun to do everything by myself. What I really like is to see all details and the overview at once. Especially how all details interact with each other. When someone wants to write a game which makes 100% usage of hardware, then he needs to make music player, scroll engine etc. fit with each other.
2) When doing stuff with more persons, the project will always be finished when the slowest person decides (not that I'm fast though).

However, this does not mean that I don't like helping others with just a part of a project. If someone needs gfx, msx or code, I could provide it, at least if time permits :)

F.e. when someone says: Hey my project is finished except for the music, then why not.
