    IRATA4
If you exchange the relevant parts of the Atari, it is no longer an Atari.
Particular , if you have in mind what the Atari could have been back in the 80s ( or even 90 ) . It's about the original. If people claim, the Atari could do this or that, you just have to keep the original. If you exchange Parts, the aimed software might run, but it doesn't run on the real thing. One solution is excluding the other.

I am of the same opinion, except that VBXE can always be turned off. I also mean that it is available and practically no software on it, but it's possible that that's why people do not like other (

    G2F has it's good parts.
But for development , particular for animations, a fully different tool would be missing.
Some tool that really works like an emulator, and everything you do, gets adapted to run on the real thing.
I'd really like to create some "scrolling" level, without using hardware scrolling. As it seems, the only way to do that for a good expression to a viewer or coder, to understand the meaning of a demonstration, is to have some impressive graphics on the screen, moving.
One helpful part could be to have the possibility of creating short code sentences for procedural graphics.

The real important part would be the usability to exchange the result between people without the need of additional explanations.

You see the graphics "moving" and directly the code in a 2nd window .

And, well, if you do a mistake, you see it directly by the reaction of the Emulator.

    Funny discussion ;)

C64 can do High Res. , has 8 sprites...
    But what is it today?

Someone makes some parallax scrolling screen, puts the sprites to one big sprite, doing some animation . Then everybody yells "woahh... never seen on the C64" ... "
It looks impressive to people who had an Atari back then. And today people still want that for their Atari . But why?

If someone builds that "stoker" demo for the C64 with 128 colors , then it could get interesting. That "pinkish - greenish red" is really boring.

You see the same on and on C64 games with some parallax and joined Sprites.
Games like "Katakis" or "Mayhem in Monsterland" are still the peak.
You have to forget that, if you think "stoker" is something new.

No one cares, no 8-bit machine looks good on big screen.

That Eye of the Beholder is impressive and looks stunning, so stop whining about C64 palette - it's known since 1983(!).

Every machine has its limitations, that is sprites for Atari, palette for C64. But still there are talented people who work around them.

The C64 had already won the race, when Atari users began to chase the C64's special features.
I'd never suppose to do such gaming crap as Eye of the Beholder for the Atari. Actually, I never understood, why people liked such games. Roll playing elements, OK. But the 3D presentation was far from satisfying. Particular , if you have seen games on the Atari like...

    Starraiders
    Wayout
    Capture the Flag
    Rescue on Fractalus.
    Koronis Rift

.... that do real fluent 3D to enhance the gameplay.

Even early PCs haven't been able to show fluent 3D. That's why such games do that 90 degree in one angle movement. This actually kills all fun in such games.

If really someone was about to put all good stuff together, instead of sneaking towards other computers, there would be some real "race winning" games for the Atari available.

The Sprite limitations wouldn't be a problem for some "Eye of the Beholder" for the Atari. The big "still image" and the slow small "3D" screen, is also nothing to talk about.

But I hardly see people working around the limitations of the Atari.

One of the real interesting things is that people like you get impressed by still images more than by the gameplay.

If you like 2 or 4-colour vector or fractal gfx that hardly provides any details, it's your business, but they're not suitable for every genre, and exploiting Atari's main streghts only, you'd end up with no diversity, "Fractalus part 6502"?

"I'm impressed with any big,16-bit game converted to 8-bit computer. "

Even by all the loss of details as with "Eye of the Beholder" ?

"If you like 2 or 4-colour vector or fractal gfx that hardly provides any details, it's your business, but they're not suitable for every genre, and exploiting Atari's main streghts only, you'd end up with no diversity, "Fractalus part 6502"?

See the problem? You claim to be an "Atari Fan" but you don't like what the Atari can do best. Isn't that weird?

Btw.: It is no problem for the Atari to show more than 20 colors per scanline.
Also, for the "3D movement" there is a lot possible, even using details for "diversity".

"But you know better what people should do or even like. The smartest ass on the planet. "

No need to be smart , if you hold a mirror toward people. Claiming the Atari is the best , and then NOT to want to put the best out of it, is simply NOT smart.
