Makary's tune is playing at 4 times speed. This means there is almost no production you could use it. You could do digitizing, using the same amount of CPU speed.
I'm also thinking about a 15kHz version, but I appreciate Makary's work there...
Also, I'm still open to do some cooperation. Not for me, just to have the best results in sound on the Atari.
I'm just asking. Years ago I was converting tracks from other computers to Atari. Remember olynxmano? :) I converted then a many SIDs to RMT, including Noisy Pillars which I never finished. Here you have a clean conversion of Jeroen Tel SID version.
Tip for instruments: 1 Arp 2 Kick 3 Pluck 4 Snare 5 Bass 6 Hit 7 Synth (short) 8 Synth (long)
Last version is very cool, but... instrument 00 (ARP) irritates me :) It makes whole thing 'dirty', try increasing VSlide. Show, how it sounds in 2 time speed.
XLent 2 times speed is not really working in RMT. The emulation is unstable as I showed above. Going higher in speed also results in more "wobbling". Also, using 2 times speed on all channels makes the envelop short, if you understand. It would be a solved miracle, just to have the drums, bass, and fx running faster.
Some timing adjustment, a change in the arpeggio....
Funny enough, those tunes show that C64's basses weren't that "in tune" , so the musician seems to use tricks to enhance the bass"guitar) sound in SID ..
I'd say my "modulation" in the bass fits very well to the tune.
Thumb up! :) What would I change? - instrument 04 (bass) on track 10, 11, 12 sounds great, but on track 0F sounds too short - create a new instrument - 08 - copy instrument 04 to 08 and increase its sustain time - changed instrument 04 to 08 on track 0F :)
...but POKEY isn't running faster
If it were possible, first thing would be a program that accelerates CPU 10000 times ;)
15kHz is detuned by default in RMT. So here is a RMT Patch 8 version.
The 15 kHz is optimized, but for the sake of using 16 bit , Two operator sound and stuff, the other generators were not available for the 15kHz itself.
rensoup did the LZSS converter and player. For some reason, it pointed toward a bug in RMT. The player allows to do shortcuts using AUDCTL. The side effect is that the Bug in the RMT player is overidden, and the modulation feature of POKEY is easier to reach.
And, well, it's a different type, whether a tune is created for chip sounds, or it's aimed to have realistic instruments "music". Still minimal CPU usage in this. It's open to do it better to any musician. I wished, back in the 80s just one tune was at this quality:
The last video shows a very relevant point to control POKEY . In RMT the Modulations get wobbling. Played in the LZSS player it doesn't wobble. This means that in the LZSS player the PWM is stable enough to do more fine tuning. But it's an odd procedure to create a tune in RMT , change a bit in the tune , and then convert it in the LZSS converter... then listen to it in Altirra. Then find the relevant position, listen to the change... go back to RMT, change a bit... do... loop... ;)
